MARAS MORAY HALF DAY TOUR

MARAS MORAY HALF DAY TOUR inka trekking

DesCRIPTION

Do you want to explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas? Then, you will discover the fascinating Inca archaeological remains of Moray and the salt mines of Maras, two of the most impressive places in the Sacred Valley!

Moray used to be a center for agricultural experiments by the Incas. The archaeological complex consists of numerous terraced rings that simulate different altitudes and climatic zones.

The Maras Salt Mines are made up of 4,200 ponds, each a few square meters in size, where salty water springs from a stream halfway up the mountain and, due to the sun, crystallizes to create a wonder of nature, the pink salt of Maras.

Itinerary

We’ll pick you up at the Plaza de Armas around 8:30-8:40 a.m. at the entrance of the Cusco Cathedral in Cusco’s Plaza de Armas and head to Moray. During the 1 hour and 30-minute journey, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the entire valley, passing by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes Mountains, through lush yellow fields of wheat, and local villages. Upon arrival, our professional guide will show us the Moray archaeological site and explain more about its purpose and history. The agricultural terraces of Moray, deeply excavated into the ground in a bowl shape, were apparently used to experiment with optimal growing conditions.

Subsequently, we’ll head towards the Maras Salt Mines. The village of Maras is known as an ancient salt-producing center, dating back to colonial times. There are many salt ponds, all excavated on the mountainside, which are filled daily with a small stream of saltwater. The landscape there is incredible, with the salt ponds and the valley in the background, making it spectacularly beautiful. After this visit, we’ll return to Cusco and drop you off near the Plaza de Armas in Cusco.
